Elton April has written a book about his life in his new school. His Afrikaans teacher plays a big part in the story. She is unlike any teacher Elton has encountered before. Her teaching methods are contentious, but she strikes a chord with the underperforming Elton, who in turn becomes more involved in Miss Broom’s personal life.
